1001 Iraqi Thoughts commissioned a public opinion survey in Iraq to explore voter trends ahead of parliamentary elections scheduled for 12th May 2018. The nationwide poll was conducted between 17-21 March featuring 1,066 telephone interviews across all 18 provinces through randomly selected mobile numbers. Interviews were weighted against population distributions and gender on the provincial level.

The results show a number of key findings:

  1. The Iraqi Army enjoys the highest level of trust among key state institutions.
  2. Haider Al-Abadi’s performance as prime minister enjoys high favorability at 79% nationwide. Among leading politicians, he is also the most popular, followed by Moqtada Al-Sadr and Hadi Al-Ameri.
  3. While Abadi’s Al-Nasr coalition registered the highest level of support, nearly two-thirds said they had still not decided who to vote for, which can be attributed in part to the fact that the official candidate lists have yet to be released.
  4. Services, job opportunities and security are the three most important issues of concern for voters.
